Notes From The Village, Anat Cohen’s latest album will be release on Tuesday, September 9th. Recorded this spring at Avatar studios in NYC, the album captures the thrilling energy of Anat’s live shows, and proves her to be an artistically adventurous writer and performer.
Cohen leads her quartet of some of the most sought-after, engaging young performers in New York, including pianist Jason Lindner, bassist Omer Avital, and drummer Daniel Freedman, with accompaniment from guitarist Gilad Hekselman on three tracks. Notes From The Village features original compositions written by Cohen as well as her interpretations of songs by Fats Waller, John Coltrane, Sam Cook and Ernesto Lecuona.

Anzic Artists on DownBeat’s 56th Critics Poll

Readers of the 56th Annual DownBeat Magazine Critic’s Poll, in the August issue, will find Anzic Records thoroughly represented with saxophonist/clarinetist/composer Anat Cohen and pianist/composer Jason Lindner claiming the #1 spot in the Rising Star-Clarinet and Rising Star-Big Band categories respectively. Trumpeter/composer Avishai Cohen came in at #5 in the Rising Star-Trumpet category in the company of Jeremy Pelt, Ingrid Jensen and others. Anzic Records’ General Manager and noted composer/arranger, Oded Lev-Ari, placed #9 in the Rising Star-Arranger category in the illustrious company of Uri Caine, Jim McNeely, Stefon Harris, Ben Allison and others.

Anat Cohen Earns Second Consecutive Clarinetist Of The Year Honors

Congratulations to Anat Cohen, who was named Clarinetist of the Year (2008) by the Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) for the second consecutive year. This marks the first time in the history of the awards that an artist has earned top clarinet honors two years running.

Anat Cohen and the Anzic Orchestra received the Nightlife 2008 Award for Outstanding Jazz Combo. The group Waverly Seven was among the finalists for the same award.
