Anat Cohen has won her 4th consecutive “Clarinetist of the Year” award from the Jazz Journalists Association! This is the first time an artist has won the clarinetist award 4 years in a row. As she so aptly demonstrates on this year’s Clarinetwork Live at the Village Vanguard, Anat is building upon the clarinets storied role in jazz music while helping to define the jazz clarinet of the 21st century. Congratulations Anat!

Tonight through December 6th Anat Cohen continues her series at the Village Vanguard by celebrating the music of Sidney Bechet. Like her highly acclaimed tribute to Benny Goodman this summer (to be released in early 2010 on Anzic) Cohen continues to mix tradition with innovation, paying tribute to the legacy of Bechet while using his music as a framework for her explorations of the swing idiom. Tonight’s show will feature the core trio of Jason on keys, Mark Guiliana on drums and Panagiotis Andreou on bass plus special guests Avishai and Anat Cohen, and Yosvany Terry.
