Avanim

Avanim, Hebrew for "stones," is the second album by Third World Love, the collective of trumpeter Avishai Cohen, pianist Yonatan Avishai, bassist Omer Avital and drummer Daniel Freedman. It was recorded in Tel Aviv in August 2003, first released in Israel in 2004, and reissued by Anzic in 2022.

All four members wrote for it: Cohen's "La Suite Africain," Avital's "Ein Karem" and "Marrakesh," and Freedman's "Judith." Avishai contributed the three-part "Three Autumn Sketches" and the title song, which he sings in Hebrew. The band's jazz draws on African and Middle Eastern music, with Avital playing oud as well as upright and electric bass.
