Introducing Triveni
The ensemble Triveni is the perfect conduit for the musical explorations of Avishai Cohen, who takes full advantage of the space and freedom this pianoless trio affords. Drawing from hard-bop, straight-up funk, and avant-garde, Nasheet Waits (Drums), Omer Avital (Bass) and Cohen effortlessly move from the American songbook to standards and Cohen's original compositions. Cohen's sometimes provocative and always soulful playing has never sounded so assured as he continues to establish himself as one of his generation's leading musical voices.

Press
“The Israeli trumpeter Avishai Cohen places great faith in flow, as both a rhythmic feeling and a metaphysical ideal … he leads a strong, supple trio”
— Nate Chinen, The New York Times
“Trumpeter Avishai Cohen assembles an intense little trio recording … it's clear the Tel Aviv-born Cohen has learned his post-bop lessons well … Avishai is a fierce cat who wades into every fray and doesn't drift too far from the blues … The range makes him sound homey and adventurous … John Coltrane's "Wise One" gets taken for a reverent ride.”
— Karl Stark, Philadelphia Inquirer
“Avishai Cohen is a tremendously fluid trumpet player with great tone and technique, and a very fine composer, too … a freely swinging, casual date where all three musicians shine … Cohen is a terrific musician, so too are Avital and Waits. The trio trades licks and lines with ease and joy … “You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To” is simply lush … “Amenu” and “Ferrara Napoly” are lovely ballads.”
— Frank Alkyer, DownBeat
“He's got this round, fat, rich tone on trumpet, and he's got ideas for days. … It features virtuoso drummer Nasheet Waits”
— Patrick Jarenwattananon, NPR
